Haryana Govt gives nod to extend Rapid Metro

The Haryana government gave its
nod to extend the upcoming Rapid Metro Rail Gurgaon (RMG) network up to seven
kilometres towards south to cover more areas of the Millennium City. Work on a
five-km RMG track between Sikanderpur and DLF Phase-2 is about to be completed
and the service is expected to start by March 31.
The state government signed an agreement with the IL&FS group for the construction of the additional seven-kilometre stretch along the Golf Course Road, reports Hindustan Times. With six stations, the extended route will be an elevated stretch with two-way standard gauge tracks. It will start from Sikanderpur Metro station near Bristol Chowk and terminate at Golf Course Extn T-junction.
The extended route will benefit people commuting between DLF City Phase I, 4 and 5, independent houses and gated communities in sectors 27, 28, 51, 52, 53, 54, 55,56 and 57.
The network will cover localities like Suncity, Central Park, Alchemist Hospital and corporate offices situated along the Golf Course Road.
The elevated track would come up on the centre median of the Golf Course Road which is being widened up to eight-lanes on both sides. Unlike in the current plan of the 5-km RMG, a couple of stations on the extended route would have parking lots.
The construction work on the new project worth RS, 143-crore is likely to take off sometime in March and it is expected to be completed by the end of 2015.
